Mash & Kiva. Helping the fight against poverty.

In an effort to make a positive difference in the world, we’ve partnered with Kiva to help in the fight against poverty.  As an entrepreneurial business ourselves, we believe that one of the best ways to fight the debilitating ravages of poverty is to encourage and support local entrepreneurs through micro financing initiatives. Different to standard aid or donations, micro finance gives people the chance to work their way out of poverty by starting their own businesses, with their success often delivering not only themselves, but also family and their local community out of poverty as they start to provide jobs and drive their micro economy.

This will work as follows:

  - Every time we win a job with one of our partners, we will provide a $ 50 loan to an entrepreneur chosen by that partner.  The loan can then be tracked, and the progress of that entrepreneur tracked and reported back.
  - In addition to partner nominated loans, each Masher of the Month will be asked to make a nomination, and these will in turn also receive a $ 50 loan from MASH.

Simple.

With an average of 250 jobs per year, we’re estimating that we’ll be able to provide over $13,000 in loans over the course of our financial year.  To push ourselves, we’re going to raise the bar a little and set our target for $ 15,000.
